Club Nights
For players aged 16 and over (our oldest member is currently 50 years over)
Everyone is welcome to try before they buy on any of our club nights every Monday and Thursday from 8 until 10. We are located at Ryde Sports Centre, Pell Lane, Ryde, PO33 3LN, UK. Club nights mainly involve doubles play but we also have regular 'theme' nights to ensure we cater for all of our members' needs. Find out more about our 'theme' nights below.
RydeKings Juniors
Our Junior Club for young people aged 13-18 runs on a monday evening from 7-8. This is a coaching session with upto 4 UKCC qualified coaches, however we try to keep it as enjoyable as possible. RydeKings Juniors are invited to stay an extra 30mins after their session and play with the rest of the club. We hope this builds their confidence and increases their enjoyment of the game.
Competitive Opportunities
League
All of our club members can volunteer themselves for team selection. We currently have 2 teams in the Isle of Wight Badminton leagues. Team selection takes place before the start of the season each year. Anyone not selected for a specific team is invited to join the reserves list. With 2 teams in the 2007/8 season a total of 16 players represented the club. New members are welcome to add their name to the reserves list.
Fun Monday
On the first Monday of every month the club holds a 'theme' night. Anyone and everyone is welcome to attend any of our regular or themed club nights. Each 'theme' night should take place 3 times throughout the year. There are four different themes:
1) Competitive Doubles - A handicapped doubles tournament with the partners being drawn out of a hat on the night.
2) Singles Night - Not for the lonely hearts but to get some singles practice throughout the season in preparation for the Islands tournaments.
3) Team Night - Team selection and practice will take place on these nights. This will only occupy 1 of the 2 courts available so don't be detered if you do not want to be in one of the teams as there will be plenty of court time still available.
4) Social Competition Night - The same format as the competitive doubles night but includes our Junior Club members. Will be held as more of a social event during the festive periods with mince pies and easter eggs to be expected.
Check out the site calendar for more details on when these 'theme' nights are held.
We hope you've found this guide useful and that we will see you at our next club night.
It's Helen Cooke, Emma's mum. Registered with the website as Penny has talked me in to coming along again for club night on Thursdays and I wanted to know how much membership is these days. I can't find it on the website anywhere - am I being thick or is the info not on the site? Anyway, could you let me know when you get the chance please - and whether you do a student rate. (Mature student, obviously!)
Will be good to get back into badders again so let me know what I need to do?
Cheers and hope you're both well.
